Kayla Bernier holds an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. Prior to beginning her graduate studies, she worked as an Instructor Therapist supporting children with autism, where she developed a strong appreciation for individualized, person-centred care.

As a psychology intern, Kayla is committed to creating a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves and exploring the experiences, goals, and concerns that bring them to therapy.

Kayla is open to working with a diverse range of clients, including individuals, couples, and families, and welcomes clients from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences. She believes that each person’s experiences, strengths, and goals are unique, and that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. Kayla strives to approach therapy collaboratively, working alongside clients to develop an approach that reflects their individual needs and supports their goals.

Her clinical interests include evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based interventions, trauma-informed approaches, emotion regulation and distress-tolerance strategies, and psychoeducation.

As she continues developing her clinical skills and professional identity, Kayla values the opportunity to learn from each client and to provide a supportive space where individuals can feel heard, understood, and respected.

Lorraine-Cousineau-Short, M.A., Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), She/her

I believe that each of us holds within us an innate capacity for healing, and that every person deserves to be met with compassion, curiosity, and the belief that healing is possible.

I work with adults navigating experiences of trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, systemic barriers, justice system involvement, minority stress, life transitions, relationship challenges, shame, or feeling misunderstood.

We might focus on emotions, internal experiences, your story, your identity, or the ways your past continues to show up in the present. I also pay attention to the broader context of your life, including relationships, systems, and lived experiences that shape how you move through the world today.

My approach is steady, non-judgmental, flexible, compassionate, and grounded in a willingness to sit with people in difficult places. My therapeutic style is trauma-informed and attachment-based. My work with adults involved in the justice system made for first hand experience walking alongside people with a vast range of life experiences, like complex trauma, addictions, systemic barriers, marginalization, and more, and this formative experience continues to inform my work.

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, Im currently Qualifying as a registering psychotherapist with the CRPO, and pursuing ongoing training in modalities such as EFT and Somatic Experiencing.

If you’re considering working together, you’re welcome to reach out. I would be happy to talk and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
